PERFECT
"Be perfect, therefore, as your Heavenly Father is perfect."
Matthew 5:48
Dictionary.com defines perfect as:
'conforming absolutely to the description or definition of an ideal type; faultless, flawless'
So, to be perfect as our Heavenly Father is perfect is to conform absolutely to how God is perfect. If we honestly ask ourselves, am I doing that? What will the answer be?
Some may say, "Well, no one is perfect...that's why Jesus came and died for us." Why then, did He tell us to be perfect, even as God is perfect?
I think that what this means is that yes, Jesus came and died for us, while we were yet sinners. We could not save ourselves. But He, the sinless, spotless lamb, was without sin and was the perfect sacrifice for us...wholly acceptable to our perfect Father God.
To accept Jesus is to accept what He did and the price He paid for us. We were washed clean of our sins. But sometimes we may continue to sin and have trouble with certain things in our lives, that we realize are wrong and shouldn't do. Should we just say, "Oh well, Jesus gave Himself for this sin...it's ok, I'm ok." Not necessarily.
Sometimes I hear preachers/evangelists on television saying that no one is perfect and Jesus paid for our sin. Yes, that's true up to a point. But are we striving to turn from our sins? If not, that can make all the difference. Remember what He said to the woman caught in adultery?
“Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”
Matthew 8:11
Go and sin no more. In other words, I forgive and do not condemn you, but don't do this again! This puts a whole new light on things...at least it does for me. We are to strive for perfection...even to the point of being perfect, even as God is perfect. Does God ever sin? Never!!!
This all leads to another subject, the Bride (the born-again followers of Jesus). Jesus said this...
"just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
Ephesians 5:25-27
As the born-again followers of Jesus, we anxiously await His return, to rescue us out of this rapidly deteriorating world...
"For the Lord Himself will descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord."
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
Are we ready? Are we perfect, as He told us to be? Are we at least trying to turn from sin? Are we asking Him, and the Holy Spirit to help us in reaching this perfection? Do you realize that if we don't "go, and sin no more" there could be a chance that we would be left behind when He returns for His Bride in the Rapture? We could be left because we were not ready and He is hoping that if He leaves us here, we might turn from our sins. Do you realize the horrors that are about to happen on this earth? It will be a time that the Earth has never seen before. The wars that have come and gone in the past will look like a walk in the park, compared to what's coming. You don't want to be here!
Let's pray...
Lord Jesus, we confess our sins to You, and we want to be perfect, as You told us to be. Holy Spirit show us our sins and give us the strength to turn from them, that we would be perfect, even as You and the Father are perfect. Thank You, Lord.
In Jesus Name we ask this. Amen and amen.
Jesus Is Lord!
