MORE THAN A WATCHMAKER

I just found out that a good friend of mine passed away...Rick Hohn of Spirit Wheels Ministry.

Rick was an Associate Pastor, Author, and Artist. All of this, in spite of being born with Cerebral Palsy. He spent most of his life in a wheelchair, unable to walk, talk or control muscle movements. But his smile was captivating.

Later in life, he felt a yearning to know the Lord better. He accepted Jesus into his heart, while watching Billy Graham on television one day. His life was never the same after this. He lived his life with zeal and happiness from that point on.

As an adult, he felt the need to associate with other Christians, and found a great church, which looked at the real Rick, not  a man in a wheelchair. He became the Associate Pastor at this church, and was able to preach with the assistance of an electronic voice machine. Many were the times that his love for Jesus would overwhelm him, and he would "dance" in his wheelchair to the praise music. He would shout "Praise the Lord," even though only He and the Lord understood what he was saying. Rick didn't care...it was more important to him to praise Jesus.

Rick was an artist. He painted by using a paint brush strapped to his forehead. His nature scenes are beautiful and amazing. He often said that he would look at them and couldn't believe that he painted them. I am so happy to say that I was able to purchase one of them and it hangs on the wall in my home.

Rick also was an Author. He wrote a book, "More Than A Watchmaker." The story of his life with a disability and how the Lord made it into something beautiful. He chose the title for his book from a statement the doctor who delivered him replied to his mother and father, when asked about how disabled he would be..."Well, he will never be a Watchmaker." But Rick's life became so much more than a Watchmaker.

Rick struggled to forgive this doctor, as he had been drinking when he delivered Rick. Rick felt that it was probable that because of this, he may have caused him to have Cerebral Palsy. Rick was finally able to forgive this doctor, through his love for the Lord.

Jesus said, "But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." Matthew 6:15

I will always remember my friend Rick. I know that he is in the presence of the Lord now, and is walking, talking, singing, and dancing!

Along with Paul of the Bible, he can now say...

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day - and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing."

2 Timothy 4:7-8
